Winter is part of how we work in Etobicoke. Doors swell and shrink, frames shift, keys snap in cold cylinders, and salt finds its way into hardware. We choose lubricants that stay fluid in the cold, set strikes with the seasons in mind, and show you the small habit that stops a key from freezing in the lock.

Shop rules
Your door, in good hands.
- You know what is happening. From the first look to the last turn of the key, we narrate the job in plain terms. You should never wonder what we are doing to your door.
- Suggestions, not pressure. If we think an upgrade would help, we say so once and explain why. If you decline, that is the end of it.
- The old parts handled. Removed locks and keys are given to you or taken away as you prefer. Old keys that no longer work are worth destroying, and we will do that if you like.
- Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Talk to a locksmith about it.

How a visit goes
The right answer for a shop with six staff is different from the right answer for a family of four, and we try not to carry one into the other. Homes generally want fewer keys and simpler routines; businesses want control and a record.

Step 1 of 5
Call and describe the door
Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

Step 2 of 5
On our way
The priority is a door that closes and locks tonight. We assess the frame, the strike and the lock, and secure whatever was forced so you can stop worrying about the opening.

2021 census: what it means at the door
Every square is one home in a hundred.
- 58 in 100 homes · older homes
- 23 in 100 homes · mostly attached
- About 58% of homes in Toronto were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census. In neighbourhoods of established homes, keys have often been copied many times over many owners. Rekeying every exterior door to one fresh key is the common first job, and it works on old cylinders just as well as on new ones.
- Single-detached houses make up about 23% of homes in Toronto (2021 Census).Where most homes are apartments or condos, storage lockers, bike rooms and parking gates carry their own locks. A locksmith can supply and key padlocks and cam locks for those spaces so one household ring covers everything it uses.

Questions people ask us
How long does the extraction usually take?
It depends on how the piece is sitting. A protruding fragment in a plug at rest can be out in moments. A deep piece behind lifted pins takes patient work with hooks and spirals. A glued or corroded fragment may mean removing the cylinder and freeing it from behind. Cutting and testing the new key, and any door adjustment, add their own time. The locksmith gives a sense of it after the first look.
How long does a jammed lock opening take?
It depends on which family the jam belongs to. A bolt bound by the door is often freed in minutes and the adjustment afterwards takes a little longer. A seized cylinder needs patient cleaning before it turns and a bench service after, and a frozen one needs thawing time. A tailpiece swap is short once the door is open; a mortise case service is longer. The locksmith gives a sense of the time once the cause is identified at the door.
Can I supply my own deadbolt?
Yes. Bring the box, the template and the instructions, and tell the locksmith the model beforehand so the bore and backset can be checked against your door. If the kit turns out to need a larger hole or a different faceplate than the door has, the locksmith adapts the door or suggests a matching model. Hardware bought online sometimes arrives set for a different door thickness, which is a small adjustment on site.
How long does servicing a mortise lock take?
A single entry lock that needs cleaning, springs and a strike adjustment is generally done in one visit of an hour or two. Filing a bit key adds bench time, and a set of interior latches is longer simply because there are more of them. A case that needs a part fabricated, or a replacement case that has to be ordered to size, may mean a second visit; the locksmith says so at the assessment.
